Brian Leopold Biography
Over a long and productive career as a television writer, producer and director, Brian Leopold has spent years collecting source material to be used as fodder for his second career as a novelist. His television career has taken him to such media hotspots as Las Vegas, Miami and the ESPN Network, to name just a few. He has written and produced hundreds of television programs and directed thousands more, on projects ranging from Major League Baseball and NFL Football to “American Idol”-style reality television. Most of his television projects have been long-form documentaries covering a wide range of topics from history to popular culture.
His broadcast career has brought him many accolades, including a national Emmy Award for his work as Coordinating Producer of the ESPN program “Sportscenter.” Brian’s work on “Sportscenter” also garnered him an additional national Emmy nomination and a nomination for the Cable Ace Award (the cable industry’s highest programming award).
Other national awards have included an Iris Award (awarded by the National Association of Television Programming Executives), two Iris nominations, two Finalist Awards from the International Film and TV Festival of New York and an honorable mention in the National Electronic Media Awards. Leopold’s many documentaries and informational programs have also won numerous regional and local awards, including three Regional Emmy Awards. Most recently, his one-hour exposé “Pain at the Pump,” about the impact of rising gas prices, was selected by the Associated Press as Pennsylvania’s best documentary.
Leopold’s television projects are best known for their crisp, emotional writing, inventive use of music and unique graphic treatments. But mostly, he’s just been taking notes.
Now, Leopold has embarked on a second career as a fiction writer, and whether it’s a suspenseful mystery or a humorous, off-kilter look at the true meaning of life, his books are inevitably set in the world of television and entertainment where he’s spent so many successful years.
